Summer Balcony Revamp

I currently have the largest balcony I’ve ever had. It’s probably 30 ft long.

I adore it, but I’ve had a hard time figuring out how to utilize so much space. It’s taken a while, but I’ve finally achieved the ultimate summer balcony makeover.

I started taking my balcony’s appearance seriously during quarantine because I had the privilege of working from home. Although my work from home life was short lived and I hadn’t had much time to dedicate to the balcony between working long ours at the start of the pandemic (I work in disaster services) and cooking, cleaning, working out, etc. (I finally had the time to properly take care of my body and home and I was milking every second of it), I haven’t given up on my balcony.

It’s been over a year later, but we have arrived!

Here’s a quick tour. For more details, as always, check out my Youtube Channel.

Plants

Listen. I’m not a plant lady. I don’t have a green thumb. I can’t even tell you the name of all of my plants.

Potty Station

This is a total life saver if you live in an apartment with dogs. Our unit is upstairs, which I love because I don’t have to deal with stumping neighbors. However, living upstairs makes taking my dogs out to pee stressful and overly complicated. This DIY dog pee station is eco friendly and adds greenery to my outdoor space. The dogs love it too. The only requirements are fresh grass and a dog crate pad, which can be found almost everywhere. I get the sod from my local plant nursery and replace it every 2-5 weeks, depending on the weather. I purchased the dog crate pad from Amazon.

I still take the dogs for a walk, but this comes in handy on really hot days and early morning and late night potty breaks. It’s also much safer if you live alone and don’t feel comfortable going outdoors at odd times of the morning and evening.

Lights:

These lights are from Target. I bought at the start of the pandemic and didn’t get around to hanging them for a full 15 months. What is life?

The balcony being organized has made breakfast and midnight snacking so fun.

On top of my balcony being absolutely cozy and gorgeous to look at, I now have a second place to enjoy breakfast and brunch. It feels romantic to be able to sit outdoors anytime of day in my own private little jungle. The balcony is also a great second office while working from home. The dogs love lounging on the balcony, especially Maxx. It fills my heart to be able to sit with him while I work. Watch our YouTube video to see all of the changes and final touches.
